  1. The Republicans probably used skewed polling data in an attempt to both comfort the candidates that represented the party, and show the public that the "majority" had supported them. However, this lead to cocky candidates and a public that went against the suggested majority. At least, these are the only reasons I thought possible. I think the election went the way it did because a majority of the public would prefer to see if a president can keep a promise he had made 4 years ago.

  2. The Republicans used false and predicted data to probably keep the hope in Romneys eyes. Romneys states took a lead early in the electoral college and so they gave him an early lead to remain hopefull. The other issues that took place during the election was the scare of hurricane Sandy disrupting the East coast. Also Florida and its polling places that took a while to get its official votes in. The electoin went the way it did because the majority of America wanted Romney, but Romney didnt do all he could to make sure he would win the electoral college. Thus ulimatly having Obama win.

  3. I think the republicans used skewed polling data because they wanted Mitt Romney to gain confidence and be reassured with the presidency. I think they also wanted to intimidate Obama, by showing that he was going to lose. Hurricane Sandy was an isssue that took place during the election that probably affected the election. I think the election ended the way it did because most of the people didn't want a new president.

  4. The Republicans most likely used skewed polling data to keep their hopes up. Most of the party would loose faith if they didn't have a good boost in confidence in winning the majority of the races. Romney was already starting to fall apart the week before election day, so this false data was probably said to keep Romney from collapsing on election day. I think election day ended the way it did because Republicans don't catch the eyes of the young voter. Young voters are starting to play major roles in voter turn out, and Obama made sure to persuade this group of voters.

    1. I agree that young voters are starting to play a bigger role in elections, but I don't think that the Republicans misjudged the results just because they didn't "catch the eyes of the young voters." For one, they were using data that were way past the margin of error, which should've been a big sign that the numbers weren't right. For another, they had based the expected turnout to be similar to that of 2004, where the numbers of Democrats and Republicans were the same. Lastly, they also overlooked the numbers of minority that came out and voted.

  5. A possible reason that the Republicans used skewed data was because they wanted a good turn out and when they saw data that strongly suggests that they would win by a large margin, they jumped for it. The Republicans were expecting a turn out like that of 2004, where the number of Democrats and Republicans were equal. This lead them to misjudge the result of the election. In my opinion, the election ended on a sour note for the Republicans because they chose to believe in a set of data that was far beyond the margin of error that was set for the polls.

  9. One good reason why the Republicans might of used skewed polling would of been because they wanted Romney to feel confident about him winning the Presidency against Obama. One of the issues that ocurred with this elections was that the republicans were so confident that Romney was going to win the senate because of the polling of years ago when Obama first got elected President. This made people think that it was going to be a close election when in reality Obama had the mayority of electoral votes.

  13. The reason why Republicans skewed the polling data was to not lose the confidence the Party had of winning. This was a critical blow to the party because it created a fake safety net for them, and they paid the price election night. Romney can't be blamed for going with what his advisers were telling him. However, by not telling Romney how close the race really was, that prevented Romney of campaigning in those states where he was edged out.

  14. I believe that Republicans used skewed data on the polling to raise hopes on Romney and other fellow Republicans running for offices. They didn't want to seem like they were losing, and it could have been used as a tactic to get Obama worried about the close election. The problem however, is that Republicans had the feeling that their numbers were really ahead and didn't try to raise them not thinking that those numbers were fake thus leading to Obama winning Presidency and the senate being majority Democrats.

A some of the issues where going on at the moment for example hurricane sandy and people not being able to vote. I think the election ended the way it did because Romney was so confident he was going to with and at first it did look like he was, so he didn’t give much effort and also I think he only reach out to a specific time of people , the white males.

  19. I believe that the republicans skewed the polling data because it gave optimism to Mitt Romney’s campaign. As well Romney would pay this people to give him the result he wanted to hear and see and that’s what the pollsters did they would set up the polls in the matter that Romney would seem ahead in the run however it was a lie. Some of the other issues that occurred in this election where things such as Romney underestimating the vote of the minority groups throughout his campaign, as well, he did not persuade for the vote of the young people which I believe was one of his mistakes. I think that the election ended up this way because it was supposed to happen Obama was almost ahead on every one of the polls, as well minorities like him and the Republican Party tried to hide the real results of the polls giving Romney false hope of winning the election.

  20. The Republicans used skewed polling data because they were over-confident on what the final results would show. After spending so much money on campaigning, Republicans thought they had done enough to gain the votes of all the key states. It could be that they were fixing their results so that they could feel comfortable thinking that they had the lead and everything was nice and shiny for them at the end. One of the things that went wrong was the ORCA system which gather people who supported Mitt Romney and gave them the task of calling people who said that supported Romney and that had not voted yet. I believe that the main reason why Mitt Romney lost to President Obama was the minority vote.

  21. Why do YOU think the election ended the way it did?
I think the Republicans used skewed polling data for two reasons. First, they were trying to keep the republican campaign optimistic. Second, they wanted to intimidate the Obama campaign and maybe scared people out of going out to vote for Obama, as it seemed pointless. Some things that happened with this election is the fact that many minorities went out to vote, and also the number of voters with cell phones increased (people with cell phones are hard to poll).
I believe the election ended the way it did because Romney only focused his campaigning on majority groups like whites, while completely ignoring minorities like hispanics, which turned out to be a big mistake.

  22. I believe that the republicans used the "skewed polling data" strategy, because it showed that they were pretty sure/ almost positive that Candidate Mitt Romney was going to win. Issues that occurred during the election was the horrific event of hurricane Sandy and the process of people already working on the Dream Act. I think that the election ended up this way, because as I previously answered; people are already working on the Dream Act and many if not being in the process, they wish for others (friends, family, neighbors etc) to get the benefit to have a greater future, therefore giving the vote of President Barack Obama.

The Republicans new that if Romney got his hands on the the true votes he would just give in and stop trying. It was the only way to keep not only the republican campaign but the Republicans running for office in the game. I feel that the election went in the direction it went because of the way Mitt Romney exposed the Image of himself. He made himself look bad and he had ideas that sometimes only benefited the Majority and not the Minority. Also he counted to much on the majority group vote expecting minorites to not vote that day, which caused his hig decline in voters.

I think Republicans used skewed polling because they were so sure that Romney would win (he only wrote an acceptance speech) and so they figured that there should be no problem in going over the margin a little. Some issues that occurred included Romney accusing Obama of "giving gifts" to "Blacks, Latinos and young voters" to kind of sway their votes in his direction. I agree with this because out of the entire four years he's been in office Obama suddenly enacts the Dream Act before the election-a clear "gift" to illegal immigrants. I think the election ended with Obama as the winner because he appealed to everyone, even if it was with gifts, while Romney had the 47% video and the Republicans had to open their mouths about rape, so these were two major factors working against him.
