I believe that the cases involving homosexuality will be the most important decisions of the court. In the case of racial integration in schools, the article writes "outcome could further limit .. use of racial preferences". The further implies that there are already some restrictions to this, so I believe that it can not be that important. The same goes for the other cases. They all have been debated once before and arent expected to change in a large scope. The homosexuality cases are relatively new cases brought to the supreme court. As the article says "deprives same-sex couples of a range of federal benefits ", so since there is a whole range there is much room for change. This means that these cases could be the most impacting of the lot.

    1. I agree with Julio when he says that the issues have all been debated before and "aren't expected to change in a large scope" except for cases on same-sex marriage since they are still pretty new.

    2. I agree with Julio although same sex marriage is new to the court, it can be expanded easily and impact our lives and our country.

      Delete
    3. I agree with the fact that homosexuality cases are generally new and have very little restrictions other than a yes or no to marriage and the limit of their benefits. Like Julio said there is a much room for change on this issue.

      Delete
    4. I agree with Julio because usually cases on homosexuality have a huge impact in the country.

      Delete
  2. I would think that the decision on gay-marriage would be the most important. The decision for gay-marriage and guaranteeing federal benefits for legally married same-sex couples would greatly impact society as whole. As Julio had previously stated, the other issues had been debated, so they would not change drastically. On the other hand, same-sex marriage cases are relatively new to the Supreme Court, so there is more room for change.

    1. i disagree with Linh because this topic is new and fewer people care about it. There is a great number of homosexuals than heterosexuals so the topic wouldn't be important.

      Delete
    2. I agree with Linh that this decision will make a huge impact in society because some are against gay marriage mostly because of their religon.

      Delete
  3. The decision on gay-marriage would be the most due to the fact that there has been constant debate on whether a state can outlaw gay-marriage and whether it is constitutional to do so. The decision on if homosexual couples will have the same benefits as heterosexual couples would not only allow them to be recognized as a couple legally, it could impact the entire country from population to economically.

    1. i a gree with brandon that the us will be impacted by the dicision on gay marriage, its not only a one state thing the issue is every where.

    2. I agree with Brandon because homosexual marriage has been a real big problem for a long period of time . Its been very controversial in many states on this country.

  4. I think the decision that is most important is the one on gay-marriage, because thats a heated issue with most people and everyone has an opinion on that issue. The decision can impact many people and it may boost our economy up and it could impact our population. That case will be the most important to follow on.

    1. I agree with Maritzas thought on that this case will be the one with the most people involved since this movement has gained much acclaim. However I dont understand how this case would affect our economy. The impact on population is obvious, but I fail to see the great change in economy.

      Delete
    2. I agree with Maritza's statement that the most important case will probably be the one gay marriage because thats the case where everyone has a different opinion and it has a huge impact on our society.

  5. I think the most important case is about the guy who got detained by the police a mile away from an apartment they had a warrant to search. This issue has a great impact because anyone who is near a search warrant can be detained for being suspicious. How far does someone have to be to prevent detetion? If the Court favors the police, I believe the area of the search warrant will increase. This could violate a person's privacy.

    1. I disagree with J-boy on this being the more important case because homosexuality is a rising topic that eventually is going to be one of the most important topics of the short future. The decision now about the gay marriage case could shape the decisions of future decision dealing with gay mirrage/Homosexuality.

      Delete
    2. I agree with 'chuca because Homosexuality has been a huge issue for a while especially because it involves State's rights and it could change the way gay marriage is treated.

    3. There is fewer people who care about this issues!

      Delete
    4. Doesnt mean it's not more important.

    5. I disagree with Johnny Boy. I believe that the article concering gay-marriage is far more important, seeing that for the past few years, there has been much universal debate wether it should be legalized or not and deemed consitutional.

      Delete
  6. I believe that the more important case decision would be the one about gay marriage. The reason I believe this, is because there's a lot of social/religious debate about gay marriage; if it should be allowed. It is a rising topic that is going to be the new "racism." This decision would also be a gateway to many more decisions on future cases about homosexuality.

    1. I agree with Pachuca because these cases (same-sex marriage) can involve other topics, such as religion, and can be hard for a group of people to come to a consensus.

    2. I definitely agree with pachuca because gay-marriage is extremely controversial especially if the church gets involved.

      Delete
    3. I believe with Pachuca in that society is viewing gay marriage as the new "racism". A very large deal in todays society.

  7. I think that the most important decision would be gay-marriage because its been very controversial in many states. Many states are against such marriage practice and many federal courts even agreed that making a law against gay marriage is unconstitutional. The topic is very popular and its a bigger issue.

    1. I agree with Miguel because gay-marriage has been very "controversial" and the topic isn't an easy one to solve. There are many conflicts between what the states are allowed to do with the issue as well, so it makes the topic very popular as said by Miguel.

      Delete
    2. I agree with Miguel that gay marriage is "controversial" because there's people that agree and disagree and it will be a big decision because their is some people that will be very upset because of their religious beliefs.

  8. I believe that the gay marriage case will be the most significant because depending on the opinion of the court certain privileges will be added or kept away from homosexual couples. It already seems unfair that gay marriages that are legal within a state, are unequal to that of a heterosexual marriage. While the other cases are about race and voting rights this case is about the couples rights and how they are being discriminated against and their liberties taken away

    1. I agree with Adrian, It does seem unfair that a homosexual marriage is not equivalent to a heterosexual marriage. But I do not feel that this decision will be the biggest one brought up within the next few weeks.

  9. The cases that deal with same-sex marriage will be most important because it is a topic that is fresh and still on everyone's mind, whether you're for or against it. Not only is it important through relevance it is also dealing with equal rights for all and whether it can be constitutional or not to have these rights given or taken away by individual states. The topic has been the center of debates for some time and will continue to be even after the court has made a ruling which is why same-sex marriage is a more important case than the others at this point.

    1. I agree with jesse, that same-sex marriage is the most most important decision that the Supreme Court is going to take. Also like jesse says is a topic that is still on everyone's mind and would not simply go away just because you are against it. It also deals with the fact of equal rights like jesse states in this answer.

  10. I think the the most important decision that would be taken by the Supreme Court would be concerning the case of same-sex marriage, because during many years this specific topic has been ignore by many states and individuals themselves. But adding to the issue is that if the Supreme Court decided to approve same sex- marriage then, they would have the same privileges that heterosexual marriages have and this would cause a turning point; in which we would not outcast the individuals that are involved in a same- sex marriage on the other hand we would view then as equals in society.

  11. I think that them most important decision would be the gay-marriage because throughout the years it has been a controversy whether it can be approved or disapproved. The reason to this is because not only one state is against this but many , for they believe that making a law for gay-marriage is unconstitutional.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I believe that the most important decision made by the Supreme Court would be the gay marriage decision because it has been an issue for decades and due to state laws some marriage licenses would not count if they go back to their original states. If the Supreme Court allows to make a decision approve gay marriage then a lot of people will be upset because they don't believe in gay marriage and they find it wrong for either two women or two men to marry. However this could be a turning point in how homosexuals can be treated in society making them equal.

  13. I feel that the most important decision made by the supreme court. Will be weather or not businesses can be sued In US courts for human rights violations in foreign countries. This case will be the most important, because it will challenge the reach and influence of our country today. Also if this case is not handled properly and we start taking on foreign human rights violation cases. That country may feel as if we are trying to push our laws, and way of thinking onto it's people. this would could lead to a loss in foreign trade, and more trouble over seas. Which is bad for everyone.

  14. The most important decision made by the Supreme Court will be towards the topic of same-sex marriage. This topic has been brought up many times before, and I believe this decision will affect many. The Supreme Court has to carefully think this through especially since there are many people who are for and against it. There has also been a lot of conflicts as well with the states intervening with the topic of same-sex marriage. People can't seem to come to an agreement towards this, therefor it should be an important topic of discussion.

  15. i think that one of the most important cases within the topics is The stop of racism in Universities.I don't think it is fair to deny a person based on their racial background. Everyone deserves the chance to go to the college of their choice because of all the hard work they have put in through the yeas, and their race should not effect their admission. so i think they should stop discriminating people.

  16. I believe that the next decision that will be the most important would have to be the same-sex marriage.I believe this because this topic tends to cause an abundant amount of conflict amongst society. As we can already see we have acts that prohibit same sex marriage, as an example California's proposition 8. For many the supreme court decision would either defend their right of having this type of relationship or they would go against it and prohibit it. This case would probably become one of landmark cases.

In my opinion the most important decision the Supreme Court will make is the one that involves the gay marriage because this topic had been going on for a long time and it is hard to make a decision on, simply because some people agree and others disagree. In the other cases from my point of view is easier to make a decision because they have the Constitution as a guide like the one of the University problem.

  20. I believe the most wrenching decision the supreme court will face is over Gay-marriage.
This topic causes a lot of tension between one another since many do not approve the whole idea of homosexuality. This case topic has been brought up several times and i feel that if gay-marriage is not approved of the case discussion will go on forever.

  25. The most important decision will be the same-sex marriage. This case has been going on forever and I have a feeling that it won't close until it is accepted. Racial discrimination has been here since we can remember and I think same-sex marriage is going towards the direction where racism went.

  26. I think the cases dealing with gay mariage is the most important because it has the most argument and debate with it and many states argue over it.. its the most rising issue cuz so many people are gay these days and theres also many people that r religous n want to protest against it.. So its like a big a#% argument or war over gayness.

  27. In my opinion the decisions dealing with gay marriage and racial discrimination in school will be th two most important ones. We have many young people in the states who deal with discrimination everyday and having schools add on makes it a major case. It also it also involves more then half of the population who is discriminated and it isn't right because, every student is entitled to an equal opportunity. Making gay marriage legal is also a major case all around the world and has been the one mainly talked about. Having the same sex marriage has been a controversy for many years and finally being able to make a decision on it is what people have been waiting for. These cases are important and it has been the two cases most waited for .

  32. I think that the most important decision will be the case involving gay marriage because several federal courts have agreed that laws like the 1996 defense of marriage Act are unconstitutional. Also because it has become a hot topic, that actors (hollywood) and president Obama have promoted. The decision will be important because it will affect the whole nation.

  33. I believe the most important decision will be on gay marriage, this issue has been on debate for quite a while, and it's time something is decided. The debate over federal benefits should be answered finally. In our country we have many rights that other countries do not allow their residents to have, and same sex marriage benefits should be allowed here. Everyone is created equal, and back then blacks were discriminated, and people fought for them to have equal rights. Why shouldn't the gay community be allowed this as well? I think this will be the most important decision, coming close to the related topic of the law relating to the Civil Rights movement. I do believe that the same sex marriage issue should finally be solved.

I think that the most important decision will be with the gay marrige since most federal courts have stated that laws in the 1996 defense of marrige Act is unconstitutional. Also its a hot topic right now and i think it wont change until they accept gay marrige if things keep up gay marrige is gonna end up the same way as racism.

  35. Out of the Court's decisions, the most controversial of them will probably be the gay marriage issue , but I beleive that the most importat one deals with voting rights. The concern about this issue has to do with our state and "is the future of the cornerstone law of the Civil Rights movement".

  36. Gay marriage would be on top of the most important cases at this moment. Same sex marriage is a hot topic right now debating if its a state or federal right. And i think the question should be answered now before discrimination kicks in and does not let the situation progress.

  37. The most important decision would be the same sex marriage topic since it's the most controversial one. Since its been traditionally in the past for a man and a women to get married and been supported by religion as well, it causes alot of controversy. The 1996 Defense of Marrriage Act deprives gay marriage from the benefits that a heterosexual couple would get but their have been cases that guaranteee the benefits for legal same sex couples. The Supreme Court will confront the situation and have say on it wich will catch the attention of most people.

  38. I believe the most important decision being discussed on Monday would have to be the same-sex marriage issue. Homosexuals have been waiting to get an answer to finally know whether or not they would get the right to do so. Gay's should be allowed to happily live with who he/she likes. Although not everyone's the same, many have strong opinions on this case. There is no reason for future debate/ battle when/ if this issue is approved, American's were thought to be independent on one another, not to be persuaded and changing gender interest. There should not be an impact &'/ or increase amount in gay population just by being influenced.
